8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. – Hebrews 13:8
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I hope this finds you well.
There is currently lots of speculation about whether restrictions will be lifted on 21st June. Will they keep the date, or delay it by 2 weeks, or 4 weeks? Who knows?! I don’t know how you are coping with it all, but the endless speculating and constant uncertainty can leave people feeling anxious and exhausted. It can make it hard to plan for anything because we just don’t know if things will be able to go ahead. It can make us wonder if there is any point in planning anything because everything can change in the space of 48 hours. However, in the midst of the uncertainty, there is one person who remains the same; Jesus Christ. Our verse from the book of Hebrews tells us that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. He does not change, ever. This remarkable truth should give us great confidence and comfort. The same Jesus who was ruling, faithful, loving, true, and ever-present with us yesterday, is the same Jesus is who ruling today with the same faithfulness, love, truth, and presence. And, gloriously, as we head into tomorrow, next week, the 21st June and beyond, he will be the same Jesus who is ruling, loving, true and ever present with his people. This we can be sure of because Jesus died, rose again to save us and ascended into heaven. He now sits at God’s right hand ruling over all things for the whole of eternity. As we face today, as we look to tomorrow, let’s fix our eyes on the one who is unchanging and look to him to provide us with security and comfort. Why not spend a few minutes asking God to help you do this? You might find it helpful to sing, or read the words to this great hymn:
“Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.”
Yours in Christ
Mark
