DESCRIPTION:Our annual car outing this year is to Parham House\, which is about 45 miles away in West Sussex.  The house itself was built in the 16th century and is well worth seeing (it is in the top twenty of Simon Jenkins’ “England’s Thousand Best Houses”)\, but there are also beautiful gardens and an Autumn Fair which presents the best in homemade food and locally grown produce as well as activities for all ages.  With estate tours\, deer walks\, gun dogs and falconry displays\, there is plenty to see and do. \nEntrance £9.50 per adult\, £5.00 per child. \nPlease sign the list at the back of the church as soon as possible so that we can place a booking. \n\n\n\nShare this Post

SUMMARY:'In Christ Alone' - Lent Course
DESCRIPTION:‘In Christ Alone’\nCommemorating 500 years since the Reformation\nFor Lent 2017\, we’re going to be joining a project with the other churches in our parish team. Our main evening Lent Course session will be taking place on Wednesday evenings in March\, at the same time as the other three churches will be meeting. Over the month\, all four church families will be getting to grips with some of the important things we can learn from the Reformation\, from a ‘carousel’ of speakers. \nThis year is the 500th anniversary of the start of the Reformation\, a time which led to the recovery of key truths for Christians\, truths which are just as important today as they ever were. The five ‘solas’ are a good guide to the Reformation: that salvation comes by grace alone\, through scripture alone\, by faith alone\, in Christ alone\, and all of life is to the glory of God alone! \nWe’ll be finding out about some of the major players in the sixteenth century\, and seeing what they taught\, and what a legacy they have given to the church today. And we’ll be taking a look at some of the passages from the Bible which God used to stir the hearts of the Reformers. \nAs with previous years\, it’s a time that will be open to those who aren’t currently members of a home group\, and to visitors: everyone is welcome\, and everything you need will be provided on the night. If you wouldn’t call yourself a Christian yet\, you’re still very welcome to come along – we won’t make assumptions\, and there’ll be plenty of opportunity to bring your questions. Hopefully\, you’ll get some answers! And you’ll learn about some of the truths of the Bible that make a world of difference to our lives today. \nCome along and find out more – just let us know if you’re planning to attend. Lee Gatiss\, a Reformation expert\, was given one minute to explain what this period of history is all about and why it matters to the church. Watch the video to see what he said! \n \nEverything starts with the Ash Wednesday services on Wednesday 1st March\, from 10am at St George’s\, and 8pm at St Lawrence. There’ll be an introduction to the course at those services. After that\, choose between these two options: \n\n\nEvenings\, from Wednesday 8th March: session runs from 7:45 to 9:15pm\nMornings\, from Wednesday 15th March: coffee at 10.30am\, session runs from 10.45am to 12.15pm at Emmanuel Church (others from the parish will be attending the daytime course)\n\nThe content of the sessions will be as follows: \n\n8th March: Cranmer\n15th March: Calvin\n22nd March: Tyndale\n29th March: Luther\n\nShare this Post
