Season 2003

The summer of 2003 produced a record breaking season for Morden Parish Cricket Club. In it's 50th year, the hot dry weather ensured that all 20 fixtures could be fulfilled. The final results showed 6 wins, 3 draws and 11 defeats. Throughout these matches, some of the players produced many remarkable individual performances.

On the batting front, the highest scorers were Alan Gilley (392 runs), Ben Sargent-Cain (254) and Phil Clarke (240). It was actually Phil that averaged the highest score per innings with 30. A number of players also recored their best ever personal scores. They were, Alan Gilley (98 not out), Phil Clarke (79), John Goddard (55) and James Davidson (40 not out).

The bowling was also impressive. The leading wicket takers were Ben Sargent-Cain (34), Alan Gilley (27) and John Goddard (19). Meanwhile, the fielding and catching was greatly improved too. Steven Alexander topped the catches chart with 8 in total.

Long standing partnership records were smashed along the way, and also of note was that Peter Smith passed 550 wickets for the club, whilst batsman Ben Sargent-Cain reached 1000 runs. Wicket keeper Phil Bodman passed 150 catches and is also the now the record appearance holder with 325 appearances.

As usual, a number of new faces appeared in the side during the season and in particular, Steve Alexander, Gas Burch, Shakir Ahmed and Ahmed Lewis became regular and popular members of the Club.

Away from the action, Chairman Richard Polley and Treasurer Andrew Laws continued to make valuable contributions to help ensure that the Club goes from strength to strength.
