Morden Parish gained amplerevenge for last year's defeat by Hampton with this emphatic ten wicket victory, which is only the fifth time in the Club's history that a win of this size has been achieved and only the second time since 1968.
Hampton were sent in to bat first, and batted with great circumspection reaching 11-0 after 10 overs. Ben eventually bowled one of the openers in the 13th over and in the next over, Charles bowled their number 3 batsman out. Two overs later, Ben took a catch off Charles to remove the other opener and when Alan came on to bowl, he got a wicket in his second over thanks to a good catch from Russell. The visitors plodded on relentlessly and reached 32-4 after 21 overs. The fifth batsman was bowled by Alan and Ian Tyne came on to get the sixth man out, assisted by a great catch from Ben, just in front of the tree at deep extra cover. Alan then took his third wicket of the day before giving way to Charles, who also took his third wicket of the game when Ahmed raced in from deepish point to hold on to a nice catch, the ball having travelled miles up in the air. That meant the visitors were 60-8 and five runs later their innings closed after 36 overs. One other notable performance was that of Neil Brooker, who was given the chance to keep wicket for the second week in succession, but this was a serious test of his ability because Ben had not been bowling the previous occasion. Nevertheless, Neil impressed everyone with his glovework and he looked comfortable even when Ben was steaming in.
After tea, Ahmed and Ben opened the Morden innings and there was an early scare when Ben offered a catch in the 4th over, but the fielder could not hold on and the batsmen took full advantage. They put together an unbeaten stand of 67 in 19.3 overs which was also the best opening stand for the Parish this season. Ben hit 6 fours in his 39 not out off 51 balls, whilst Ahmed played a solid supporting role, with 2 fours in a patient 15 not out off 66 balls.
