Morden made six changes to the side that lost the previous match and gave debuts to Ahmed Lewis and 13 year old Neil Brooker. In a limited overs match, the five Parish bowlers did well in very hot conditions, with Phil Clarke making two early breakthroughs which reduced Casuals to 30-2 after 8 overs. The next pair added 100 for the hosts, until Charles eventually bowled one of them, and Alan got the other LBW, making the score 142-4 in the 30th over. The next partnership added a quickfire 66 during the expected slog in the final overs until Ben bowled one of them out with the penultimate ball.
The Morden innings got off to the worst possible start when Phil Clarke missed a straight one to bag a golden duck. Ben and Nadeem made a good recovery and added 63 in 11 overs, which was a record 2nd wicket partnership for the season. Nadeem’s 37 was his best score for the club, but he, Alan and Matt all fell in quick succession and Morden lost their way until Charles came in. He proceeded to his 33 with 7 fours in a partnership of 37 with Ben in only 4 overs. He was then bowled off a no ball, but having survived that he was bowled properly only 2 balls later. It was the first time he has been dismissed this season and gives him an average of 81. Morden then slipped further behind the run rate as Ahmed and Ian failed to stay with Ben for very long. The youngster Neil did well in the closing overs, scoring 10 (including a 5) and adding 29 with Ben for the 8th wicket.
The Parish finally reached a respectable 182-8, which was the 3rd highest score ever when batting second. The backbone of the innings was an excellent 55 not out from Ben, who batted for 2 hours 25 minutes and only faced 82 of the 211 balls bowled. This was his best score of the season and was his 3rd fifty for the Parish, but his first since May 2001. He also passed 200 runs for the season and now requires only 46 more runs to reach his highest total for a season. More importantly, he became the 19th player in the history of the club to pass 1000 runs and is now at 18 in the list of highest scorers. He needs 39 more to reel in Ian Robertson. Finally, this particular 50 came of 78 balls, in 137 minutes, including 5 fours and included just one change. A catch to square leg was dropped when he was on 13.
