Morden Parish made three changes for this game, Ben and Phil C. returning, and Peter making his first appearance of the season. It proved to be a recipe for success as Morden secured their second win of the season in sweltering conditions at Sutton Grammar School’s ground, although the achievement came against a side who could only muster six players.

Bec won the toss and batted first, holding on for 11 overs before Phil made the breakthrough, thanks to a fine catch at extra cover by Steve Alexander. Gaz Burch was next to strike, claiming his first ever wicket with only his 9th delivery for the parish, the batsman edging the ball to the keeper. The edge was so faint however that nobody appealed at first and as time seemed to stand still, Phil B. eventually made a gentle enquiry and the umpire raised his finger! Three overs later Phil C. could have struck again when offered a caught and bowled opportunity but uncharacteristically he dropped the chance, although he made up for this with his very next delivery, thanks to the safe hands of Allan Gilley at mid on. For the following seven overs Bec rallied and took their total to the verge of three figures, Peter smith taking most of the punishment, until Nadeem struck with the aid of Phil B. taking his second catch. Three overs later, it was all over when Ben finally got in on the act, taking his 9th wicket of the campaign when Phil C. held a catch a mid on. The Bec captain declined to accept a sporting offer that some of his batsmen could bat for a 2nd time in these circumstances, and so it was left at 104 to win.

In the Morden reply, Phil B and John both departed quickly, and it was left to Phil C. and Alan to get the winning runs, and in fact break a few records in the process. Alan reached a milestone of 500 runs for the club, in this, his 26th innings. He was dropped whilst on 12, and finished 17 not out. Phil achieved his best ever score, also his first half-century ever. His 50 came off 27 balls and took 38 minutes, with fourteen 4s and one 6. Phil was dropped on 56, but carried on for 64 not out as the game on this artificial surface ended before tea.
