Morden Parish made six enforced changes to the previous week's team with Phil Clarke, Ahmed Lewis, Steve Alexander and Matt Coote returning to the side and Peter Smith playing his first game of the season with a debut being given to young Steve Everett
Ben and Phil opened the bowling but the opening batsmen both looked in confident mood. A five was conceded in the eighth over when the batsmen took a sneaky single and a strong throw from Ben narrowly missed the stumps with a run out attempt, but Matt Coote who was in position to "back up" couldn't block the ball which then sped to the boundary. This rather summed up the Parish fielding in the early stages, as the visitors reached 44-0 off 11 overs. The Civil Servants from the Department of Energy eventually lost a wicket in the 14th over when Phil Clarke struck the batsman on the glove and Phil Bodman took a smart leg side catch behind the stumps. The same bowler got his second wicket in the 20th over at 59-2 and Alan Gilley came on to take a wicket in his 3rd over, making it 97-3 after 28 overs. Peter Smith bowled well in his first game this season and took a wicket in his fifth over and then another in his seventh over, thanks to a good catch from James Davidson at deep mid on in the 35th over, 145-5.
Unfortunately, 49 runs were smashed off the last 6.1 overs as the Exiles skipper attempted to complete a maiden century. having opened the batting for them, he achieved his goal off the penultimate ball and finished on 103 not out.
After tea, the Parish batted with great determination and managed to draw this first ever meeting between the two Clubs. Phil Bodman was caught at extra cover in the sixth over but when the last 20 overs started, Morden were 49-2 having lost James Davidson lbw for 19, including 4 nice fours. Phil Clarke was soon caught at square leg for 1 and then Ahmed was caught for 18 having batted for almost an hour and a half to get his best ever score for the Parish. Ben was also caught for just 1, making it 58-5 with 12.4 overs left. However, Steve Alexander and Alan Gilley could not be beaten, adding 65 for the 6th wicket. Alan got his fifth half century for the Club off 34 balls in 38 minutes with 7 fours, whilst Steve batted 68 minutes for his 10 not out, off 54 balls with 2 fours.
