A run of three successive defeats was brought to an end with this emphatic victory and the season ended on a high note. After being inserted, Morden's batting looked rather frail. After 20 overs, the score was 65-8. To this point, the highlight had been that Alan Gilley reached a total of 392 runs for the season. This is the 2nd best total by one player in one season in the club's history. It also cemented his status as the leading run scorer for the club for the second season in a row.
On this occasion, it was vital that the tail wagged and funnily enough, the best 9th wicket stand of the season developed as Matt Coote and Phil Bodman added 27 before Matt was out for 8. Peter Smith was last man in at 92-9 and even though he had not scored a single run so far this season he proceeded to smash the ball to the midwicket boundary twice in one over to take the score past 100. After this, the partnership blossomed and with the help of a large number of extras, the last pair batted out the remaining overs and were still unbeaten at tea, having elevated the score to 138 and in the proces, set a new club record for the last wicket stand of 46, beating the 12 year old record by 2 runs. Incidentally, the total of 42 extras is the 5th highest received by the Parish.
After tea, the Parish bowlers wasted no time in making inroads, as Ben took a wicket in his first over and at the other end, Umar took 2 wickets in his first over. After 6 overs, Croham were 21-6. There was little further resistance and Peter Smith took the last wicket when a nine year old was harshly given out stumped. Umar returned his best bowling figures with 4-16 and 4 wickets for Ben gave him 34 for the season. This beats his previous best of 31 and cements his position as the leading wicket taker for the 4th year in a row. Other highlights were that Ahmed took his first catch for the Parish, Alan took his 6th catch of the season and this fine victory was the team's 6th of the season.
