Morden Parish started the 2004 season by playing Beddington CC for the first time ever. The wwather was warm and sunny all day, the ground was flat, and the pitch played quite well, except for the odd ball keeping low.

It was no surprise when the home skipper elected to bat first, and they took such a leisurely approach to the innings that their alloted time had to be extended to 2hrs 40mins. Even then, it took a mad flurry of runs from the tail in the last few overs to reach a modest total of 134 off 45 overs. The Parish bowling made it very difficult for the home batsmen, with John Goddard's opening spell of 11 overs bringing 1-27, and Phil Clarke's initial spell produced 1-17 from 7 overs. They were supported well by Alan Gilley and Ed Corrigan, who both took a wicket and bowled with good economy. The fielding was very tidy too, and the highlight was a good run out, thanks to Alan and Phil Clarke. Later, Alan also took an impressive catch out in the deep off the bowling of Charles.

After a splendid tea, Morden's innings commenced with Ahmed and Phil Bodman putting on 30 for the first wicket in 15 overs. Phil clarke then came in and hit a quick fire 31 off 16 balls. Ahmed was next out, but a reasonable platform had been established with the score 65-2 after 20 overs. Unfortunately, John, Alan, Charles and Steve were all dismissed fairly quickly, two of them being run out, even though there was plenty of time available. When the last 20 overs were called, Morden were 93-7 off 27 overs, with Ian Tyne giving solid support to James Davidson, who was batting extremely well, and for the first time ever, in a helmet. When the 31st over had been completed, the equation was that the Parish needed 20 to win, with 16 overs and 3 wickets in hand.

The next over was to be bowled by Farley, who first 3 overs had produced 0-19. The situation looked promising, however all Morden's hopes were dasked by an unlikely hatrick off the first three balls of the over, as James knocked up an easy catch, R.G.Atkins was clean bowled, and finally Ed Corrigan was bowled too. So the day ended with a narrow defeat, followed by a superb barbeque at Charles'.
