Another poor batting performance by Morden Parish produced the teams's second lowest score of the season and their tenth defeat, equalling the record for the most defeats in a season. The Morden side showed only two changes from the previous week's eleven, and after putting the visitors into bat first, the bowling, fielding and catching was excellent as Old Whitgiftians struggled to a total of 110 all out.
Morden were hampered by an early injury to Ben, who hurt his ankle whilst diving to stop the ball at slip. After a brief rest, he returned to the action, and took the first wicket, thanks to a catch by Steve Alexander at silly mid off (7th of the season). Ben managed to bowl six overs before the injury forced him out of the match for good after just 45 minutes play. In his absence, John Goddard had to bowl a marathon spell and produced his best ever bowling figures for the Parish of 4-33 in 16 overs. John's first wicket was a catch by the wicket keeper Phil Bodman which was his 150th for the club. Also notable was John's 3rd wicket, a brilliant catch by 12 year old Shakir Ahmed at deep square leg, his first ever catch for the Parish. Alan Gilley also bowled well in the closing stages, and picked up 3 quick wickets to bring his tally for the season up to 26, just 3 behind Ben.
After tea, the Morden innings hit immediate trouble, with four wickets tumbling in the first four overs, to some very ordinary bowling. Ahmed Lewis held the innings together with a brave 82 minute stay, and he remained not out at the end with 17, his best score for the Parish. He received some good support from Latif and Coote, who both lasted for 39 minutes as Morden tried to salvage a draw, but there were still 10 overs remaining when the last man, Paul Hancock was clean bowled and Morden Parish were well beaten in the end.
