Morden omitted 5 of the players that made nought the week before, but the end result was another defeat. That is 4 on the trot and 5 consecutive home defeats.
The game started an hour late with the visitors unfortunately going to the wrong ground initially, but Phil Clarke made up for lost time by removing one of the Hampton openers in the 4th over. Phil used the new ball well coming in from his newly designed long run up (starts in the car park) and bowled 6 economical overs at one end, while Ed Corrigan bowled nine miserly overs for 8 runs at the other end. His vicelike grip on the opposition brought due reward with 2 wickets and his best bowling of 2-8. After 17 overs, Hampton had reached only 22-3, but a couple of decent partnerships pushed the score on until Gaz Burch came on and took a wicket in his first over and 2 in his second. Gaz ended up with his best bowling figures of 4-39. Although Hampton did not hit a boundary until the 18th over, some late order hitting took their total over 130, but Alan Gilley put and end to it by bowling one batsman and running another out by throwing to the keeper. The final wicket to fall was another run out. This time it was a superb direct hit from Gaz and this meant that Morden had captured all 10 opposition wickets for the first time this season.
When extras are your top scorer, you know things could have gone better. The first 7 wickets fell in only 13.2 overs, with the only notable achievement being that Alan Gilley reached 250 runs for the season. However, there was a courageous rearguard action and this took the game into the final over and so nearly a draw. Steve Alexander and Paul Hancock stayed together for 11 overs, until Paul edged one to the keeper ending a stay of over half an hour and to the delight of his teammates, his first run of the season. Meanwhile, Steve batted for nearly 1.5 hours until he was eventually caught in the penultimate over, having made his best ever score of 23 from 61 balls including 2 fours. His stay encompassed 20 overs and was a fantastic effort! Ed Corrigan also showed stubborn resistance. He had never batted for the Parish before and his stay lasted 10 overs, facing 35 balls in the process. He was finally beaten by the first ball of the last over and the hopes of a hard fought draw were dashed.
