This week Morden had a fixture against Kingstonian CC where the overall result improved marginally from the week before, sadly losing the game by 7 wickets. It was a low scoring game where runs were hard to come by due to some good bowling and because the outfield was covered in grass cuttings, which on all but a couple of occasions stopped the ball well within the boundary.

For the second match in a row the Morden batsmen struggled to establish themselves in the new season. Against some well directed, but not severely threatening bowling Morden contrived to slump to 22 for 5 with Charles leading the way with a quick 10. A little fortune went the way of Kingstonian as Steve, Ben, Phil and Alan all played onto the stumps. Neil Brooker fought bravely to stop the collapse, batting for nearly an hour for a valuable 5. He was supported for a while by John 'The collapse starts with me' Goddard, who survived an early chance to help Neil put on 20 for the 6th wicket (which could well be the highest partnership of the season so far!). Sadly, Neil was out soon after John and the tail didn't last too much longer although Russell hung around well to take the not out honours lasting 16 mins!

Phil and Ben opened the bowling in the Kingstonian innings and produced some good stuff. Phil streaked to the top of the wicket takers charts with 2 victims and Ben got his season under way thanks to a catch by Steve Alexander. Charles again made some half chances but is still waiting for his first wicket of the season and Alan again got in a couple of good overs with no joy. The fielding once again was of pretty reasonable standard with Chris doing some good work.

Unfortunately, this week there was not enough time for a beer match!
