Nurturing the children and young people in the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ is a high priority for us as a church, as well as supporting parents in the key role they have in this. We have a strong group of children at St Martin’s. We seek to teach the Bible to them in age-appropriate ways with a lot of fun thrown in. Sunday Club meets most Sundays, except when we have an all-age service. As well as Sundays, we occasionally organise themed events with craft, games, songs and Bible teaching. All our teachers and helpers are subject to safeguarding checks.
We have a crèche available for children aged 0-2yrs that takes place during the morning meeting upstairs in the gallery of the church.
Our Sunday Club caters for children aged 3-13yrs
- Bible Beginners – 3 to 5s (nursery)
- Bible Buddies – 5 to 7s (reception, years 1 and 2)
- Bible Explorers – 7 to 10s (years 3 to 5)
- Bible Discoverers – 10 to 13s (years 6 to 8)
These groups are led by a very willing and capable team. Sunday Club begins at 10.30am. The children and young people start the morning all together after which they go to their age-specific groups. They sing and then learn from the Bible accompanied by games, craft and drama etc. Sunday Club then joins the main church meeting towards the end of the morning to show the adults what they have been learning.
Leading up to Easter the children will be learning about Jesus’ death and resurrection from the gospel of Matthew. After Easter the children will look at seven signs in the gospel of John which prove that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God. They will also learn about the parables of the lost sheep, coin and son in the gospel of Luke.
Youth work is done at a Parish level, joining the young people from the four churches. Currently there are two groups:
