Mid-week Groups and Activities

Gathering together to study the Bible and fellowship together is a vital part of church life and therefore many of us meet in a ‘Home Group’. There are several Home Groups and they meet in people’s homes either during the day or in the evening, usually on a fortnightly basis.

Our most important meeting of the month is our prayer meeting which takes place on the first Tuesday of the month. This is a time for members to praise God for who he is and what he has done for us in Jesus Christ, as well as to thank him for answered prayer. We also pray for church matters, our mission and ministry as well as for the wider community. We start at 7:50 pm, and finish promptly at 9:00 pm.

We encourage our members to attend these excellent days of gospel encouragement and Bible teaching.

Every other year or so we go away for a weekend to enjoy fellowship together. As well as relaxing, playing sport and sharing food, the main focus of our time is our study of the Bible together as we listen to a guest speaker. Recent speakers have been William Rogers (2015) David Jackman (2012) who taught the book of Joshua and Jonathan Fletcher (2010) who taught 2 Corinthians 10-11.

We have enjoyed time at Pilgrim Hall in West Sussex and more recently at Chatsworth Hotel in Worthing.

We have an annual Lent Course, when most Home Groups join together for teaching sessions on a particular Bible theme.

Annually we have a Christmas Craft Fair held towards the end of November to raise funds for our missionaries. This is popular and is run to a high standard by our congregation members.

We also have social events such as a Quiz Night or a meal like a Harvest Lunch where we look forward to inviting friends and relatives to a pleasant evening of fun and conversation.

Other similar events have included a Passion Play and musical evenings with our excellent organist Paul Burgoyne.

We also organise occasional outreach evenings where we seek to share the good news of Jesus more pointedly in a relaxing atmosphere. Irregularly we host a Craft Evening where the women of the church invite friends to come and learn how to make something that will enhance their homes or their fridge! The evening will include a short talk on some aspect of the Christian faith.

We occasionally organise themed events for children with craft, games, songs and Bible teaching.

We have also hosted a theatre night, Men’s curry evenings, ‘Grill a Christian’ event and so on!

Serving in the Community

This is a very popular gathering for the parents and carers of toddlers held in the main building on Friday mornings 10am-12 noon. The team of helpers is headed up by Jane Pearson, a member of our congregation. Just turn up!

This is a tasty, well-priced lunch that takes place every other Thursday at the church and caters for a large group of mainly senior members and friends. Kay and the team make the regulars feel very welcomed and it is a great way of getting to know people. Many guests who are not members of our church enjoy coming to eat and meet one another.

We enjoy a good friendship with the nursing home next door and a small group of us go in monthly to lead a service and chat to the residents.

Once or twice in the year we go somewhere as a church to enjoy fellowship together, whether it be a historic building, town or some gardens.
